We had some excellent swims over the weekend, but couldn't overcome the powerful East Angels at the DPS A-League Championships this last weekend.

The meet played out pretty much to form with East taking the team title and our Lady Patriots coming in second:

  • East:  485

  • GW:  373

  • TJ:  167

  • South:  106

  • West:  65

  • Montbello:  55

  • North:  42

Juniors Abby G and Allison R

Our girls accounted themselves very well with some outstanding achievements:

  • Catherine M going 1:09.1 to take first and break the school record in the 100 breaststroke

  • Erica C taking second and qualifying for State in both the 50 free and 100 fly

  • Freshman Anna K swimming to 3rd place in the 100 fly

  • Freshman Paige Witter winning the 500 Free

  • All three relays lowering their State Qualifying times

  • GW placed four swimmers in every event final

The highlight of the meet was Julia C winning the Jim Hartman award as The League's outstanding senior student athlete.  Only two other GW swimmers have acheived this prestigious honor.

24 out of 30 individual PRs were established during the meet, and all the relays improved, so the meet was a huge overall success.

Eight girls will be heading for Ft. Collins next week to compete in the Colorado Girls 5A High School State Swimming Championship.  Two of them, Erica and Catherine, will compete in individual events, and the rest will swim on our three relay teams.

Thanks again to all the parents and other swimmers who cheered us on over the weekend.  It was great to see everyone there supporting the team!
