Qualifiers Xavier (200 and 500)
along with Kyle (Med Rel), Richard (Med Rel) and Managers
Kara and Abby |
The 2010 season concluded last
weekend with the Colorado 5A State Championships at EPIC in Fort
Collins.
GW had nine qualifiers Dan, Jake,
Ben, Seth, Kevin, Xavier, Kyle, Richard, and Sean (diving).
The hope was that these nine boys could improve upon last year's
fifth place finish and even break into the BIG THREE (Highlands
Ranch, Cherry Creek, and Regis). Unfortunately, we didn't
perform as well as we could have but still managed to get fifth
again this year behind the BIG THREE and Boulder High.
We had several good swims on
Friday to set ourselves up for a strong showing on Saturday, but the
competition proved too tough for our Patriots. We had a bit of
illness and a few cases of the nerves.
Highlights of the weekend:
-
Ben H. win in the 500 and
sixth in the 200 with All American qualification
-
Dan J takes 3rd in the 50 and
100
-
Jake W. swims to 7th in the
500 and 12th in the 200IM
-
Seth P. gets 13th in the 100
fly and nearly makes finals in the 50
-
200 and 400 free relays team
up to take 5th and 4th, respectively, with All American
Consideration times in both
-
Xavier B. continued to
improve with PRs in the 200 and 500
-
Kevin B-N nearly made it back
to finals in both the 200IM and 100 Breast
The weekend was lots of fun,
however, as team managers Kara and Abby kept things light as they
traveled with the team on the "short bus."
Coach Mark was designated "Bus Driver of the
Year" and hopes the team will allow him the privilege of driving
again next year. And thanks
to Coach Dana for playing the role of mother the entire weekend.
